The Power of Slow

Even though our culture pushes us to go fast like a freight train, if you look around at nature you will see nothing speed through life. Every part of the natural world is a gradual slow paced evolution of life. Just because our culture is a capitalist one we think we have to hurry around and do the top amount of work and effort at all times. This is insane thinking. Nothing in life goes that hard at all times of year. We have become so far removed from the earth and her ways. To get back in touch with the planet and nature’s cycles, go slow. Think carefully about each step and action, each thought and plan. As I make my slow way through my life, I am able to have time to think about future plans and past actions, and about what I see as I walk. The slow has enabled me to absorb the stunning beauty and depth of the tall trees, the moving vivid sunsets and sunrises, to breathe deep and create space in my busy brain. Walking slow has taught me all that was wrong with the way I was walking. It got me to place my feet more carefully and luxuriously. Most of all, going slow helped me to remember the value of taking slow and deep breaths. I will say that our culture will continue to try to get you to rush so expect that to come. You have to keep on trying to re start. Going slow has rich rewards.
